Between 1948 and 1952, under the Marshall Plan, the United States transferred 130 billion dollars to Europe to help its recovery from WWII. During the 1950s and 1960s, Italy – the third largest recipient – moved from being a war-ravaged agricultural country to the seventh most industrialized economy of the world. Did the Marshall Plan determine the Italian growth after WWII? Or would have Italy recovered nevertheless? The current project aims to answer these questions by examining the role of the Marshall Plan in bolstering Italian agricultural and industrial production in the aftermath of WWII, and in supporting its subsequent industrialization process.

Requirements:

(a) Available to allot at least 10 hours per week for 10 weeks

(b) Basic knowledge of Excel and Stata

(c) Excellent communication skills in English

(d) Ability to understand Italian preferred, but not required.
